Section A Short Conversations
Directions: In Section A, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation, a question will be asked about what was said. The conversations and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a conversation and the question about it, read the four possible answers on your paper, and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard.
1. M: What would you like to have, madam?
W: Well, I’d like to have a cup of coffee and some pancakes.
Q: Where does the conversation take place?
2. M: How’s the new job, Alison?
W: Well, I enjoy meeting people. And I like answering the phone. But I hate typing all day long.
Q: What is Alison?
3. M: How about going to the theatre tonight, Susan?
W: Sorry, I can’t. My sister is going to Boston and I have to drive her to the airport.
Q: Where is Susan going tonight?
4. M: I need a car this weekend, but mine has broken down.
W: I’m sorry to hear it. But you can always rent one if you have a license.
Q: What does the woman mean?
5. M: I feel thirsty. Could you get me something to drink?
W: Sorry, I’ve got no money with me. We are almost home.
