What was your childhood dream? Most children dream of becoming famous sports stars or singers. Others, however, dream of becoming astronauts flying into space and discovering new planets or life forms. Most people never get a shot at achieving their childhood dreams of flying into space, but if you were given a chance, would you take it even if most people told you it was an idiotic idea?

你儿时的梦想是什么？大部分孩子的梦想是成为有名的运动明星或歌手。但是另一些人去梦想成为宇航员飞去太空发现新的星球或者生命形式。大部分人都没有能够实现他们儿时的梦想飞去太空，但是如果你有了一个机会能够实现它，你是否会抓住它，尽管大部分人都告诉你这是一个愚蠢的想法呢？

Well, recently a Dutch organization called Mars One has offered many people the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. Mars One plans to send a group of four volunteers on a one-way trip to Mars in 2023 with the aim of establishing the first human settlement whilst recording the process and turning it into a reality TV show.

最近，荷兰一家名为火星一号的机构已经提供许多人这样的机会来实现他们的梦想。火星一号计划招募四位宇航员在2023年送他们去火星，这是一个单程旅途，在那里，开辟人类第一个“殖民地”，并将这个过程记录下来并制作成一个真实的电视节目。

Many questions have been raised about the mission: some people have expressed skepticism and called the project a hoax, especially since each applicant is charged between $5 to $75 just to apply. Others have brought up some good points about whether or not we even have the technological capability for such a mission.

关于这项任务的许多问题被提了出来：一些人对此表示怀疑并且称其是一个恶作剧，特别是因为每一个申请者需缴纳5到75美元。另一些人提出了某些正面的观点，那就是我们是否拥有这样的技术能力来完成这样的一项任务。

Even though many negative questions have been put forward, a huge number of people still applied, over 80,000 in the first two weeks with more than 10,000 of those from China. Is this because many people are still chasing a dream? Or are there just many people with the pioneering spirit necessary for making space exploration a reality?

尽管很多负面的问题被提出来，但是仍有很大一部分人申请了，在开始的两周在8万多人中有超过1万人来自中国。难道这是因为很多人人在追求一个梦想吗？还是很多人只是有着必要的开拓精神来让太空探索成为现实呢？

One of the key points to this proposed mission is that it’s one-way—no coming back! Many consider the intention of broadcasting the process on television ethically and morally wrong: if something goes wrong then people will die whilst an audience watches for entertainment.

这项任务的重要一点是它是单程的旅途----不能再回来！许多人认为在电视上广播这个进程在伦理和道德上市错误的：如果什么地方出了错，人就会死而观众却视之为娱乐。

So far, as most researchers can tell, there isn’t the technology available for such a mission. So why have so many paid to apply? Maybe it’s just a fantasy that they know will never come true, or maybe it’s that small grain of hope that many people need to keep their childhood dream alive.

至今为止，大部分探索者都会说，现在还没有可用的技术来完成这项任务。但是为什么有这么多的人付钱申请呢？也许这只是一种幻想，他们知道这永远不会实现，也或者这是一点点希望，因为人们需要让他们儿时的梦想不知破灭。
