To the firemen’s surprise, dropping a spoon may have saved Joy Horton’s life. The 73-year-old woman has been living alone. She was preparing some food in her western New York home on Lake Ontario on Monday morning. As she was washing something near the kitchen sink, the spoon she washed happened to drop onto the floor of her kitchen,so she bent down to pick it up.Just then her house exploded.
The explosion destroyed her home in the Wayne County town of western New York.Everything in the house was badly damaged, but Joy Horton wasn’t seriously injured. She crawled out from underneath the broken bricks and walked to her daughter’s home nearby to get help.
Fire officials said no people were injured besides Joy Horton in the explosion.Because Horton was bending down when the explosion happened, the kitchen sink and counter top helped keep the broken things from hitting her.Horton had only small injuries. The police haven’t found out what caused the explosion. They’re still looking into the cause.
